Locally the hills are hard on cars in a different way, because parking nose-down on a steep street means water pools along the base of the windshield and works into aging trim. The straightforward route is the Major Deegan south to the Bruckner Expressway, then east and off at Hunts Point Avenue, which puts you a couple of blocks from 1019 Garrison Avenue. It runs about ten miles and twenty to thirty minutes depending on the Deegan, which is not a road that behaves in the afternoon. The Cross Bronx to the Sheridan is an alternative but rarely faster.
